This two DVD series outlines the controversies that exist today in dentistry regarding the most favorable
position for the condyle in the fossa. Dr. Okeson reviews five different joint positions that are currently being
used in dentistry. The five positions are:
(1) The musculoskeletal stable position
(2) The most posterior retruded position
(3) The anterior protrusive position
(4) The 4/7 radiographic position
(5) The neuromuscular (myocentic position) position
The rationale and scientific support for each position is reviewed along with it clinical implications. The
merit or lack of merit for position is discussed with respect to restorative dentistry and the management of
TMD.
